All Hands On The Bad One

When you still own all the albums from the “10 Albums That Shaped Your Teens” meme. Except for The Foo Fighters and The Fugees which for some reason are only in your iTunes.

I can’t say that I miss CDs, because I still have a giant wall of them, but I do miss the days of physical media. I miss going to A&B Sound and trying out all the different headphone stations. I miss ordering random albums known only by reputation for a penny from Columbia House. I miss lying on my back reading along with the liner notes.

In making this list I was overwhelmed with the amount of great artists that had a debut or sophomore album while I was growing up. Music feels so fleeting at the moment. At least it does for me. I wonder if the teens of today who’ve only known MP3s are consuming music differently than I did because they don’t have to work hard to get it. They don’t have to order from Kill Rock Stars or Sub Pop and wait for the mail to come. Anything and everything is at their fingertips.

Perhaps I’m just nostalgic for a time that seemed more deliberate and less disposable.
