On one of my day trips in Southern California I stopped through La Jolla to visit a little place called “Children’s Pool”.  Originally designated to be a beach for children because of it’s calm waters it has been completely taken over by seals & sea lions.  When I got there I couldn’t believe how many there were!  But I was even more shocked by the fact that none of them seemed to be moving.  At first glance you’d swear it was a beach of dead seals.

When you start getting closer you notice that they’re just sleeping.  Every once in a while there’s a yawn, a stretch or a roll over, but that’s about it.  These tubby little seals were the laziest animals I think I’ve ever seen!  Even still they seemed to have unique personalities when you watched them long enough.

This little guy was so adorable.  He was one of the “toddlers” as far as I could tell.  So fat that he couldn’t even reach his paws together and his tail always stuck up a bit.  I got a real laugh out of watching him sleep with his tongue sticking out like a little pug.
