Retirement Plans

Today is my mother’s first day of retirement. After falling in love with my Dad (the person attached to the legs in the background) and getting married at 21, she’s worked a number of jobs to support our family through the years. Sometimes more than one at a time. The last 20 she spent commuting up to 3 hours a day only to spend a further 8 with customers yelling in her ear.

What I’m saying is she earned waffles and mimosas in her pyjamas this morning.

And on the day she finally gets to relax my life is ramping up to launch my own business. We didn’t plan it this way, there were delays out of our control that made the dates line up. I like to see it as the Universe’s inside joke, and maybe a good omen for us both.
